Amsterdam, NY — March 18, 2026 — The Greater Amsterdam School District Board of Education took action during its meeting on March 18 regarding an individual who had been serving as an assistant coach for the varsity boys lacrosse program and was recently arrested. The individual in question had been appointed to the position in February.

Following the arrest, the district had placed the individual on administrative leave. As a result of Board action yesterday, the individual has been terminated from his part-time coaching position.

Based on information currently available from law enforcement, the alleged conduct is reported to be connected to the individual’s prior employment in another school district. At this time, the district has not been informed of any allegations involving Amsterdam students.

“The safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority,” said Superintendent Richard Ruberti. “We will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement and remain committed to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all students.”

Because this remains an active criminal investigation, district officials are limited in what can be shared.

Families with concerns are encouraged to contact their building principal or school counseling staff.
