Boys Basketball Win

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (March 20, 2026) — For the first time in more than three decades, the Amsterdam High School boys’ basketball team has earned a spot in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Class AA State Championship.

The Rams secured their historic berth with a 63-54 semifinal victory over Section 1 champion Rye on Friday. Amsterdam used a strong defensive effort and timely perimeter shooting to create separation in the second half after entering the game in a tightly contested first quarter.

A pivotal run late in the first half helped the Rams build momentum heading into the break, and Amsterdam continued to extend its advantage in the third quarter with another scoring surge. Senior guard Aundray Fowler led all scorers with 29 points, including five three-pointers, while senior Pegasus Santana added 17 points. Senior forward CJ Miller contributed a game-high 14 rebounds, helping control the pace and secure second-chance opportunities.

Junior Rocco Natale Jr. also played a key role in the second half, converting multiple inside baskets as Amsterdam widened its lead. Despite a late push from Rye, the Rams maintained control down the stretch to secure their 16th consecutive victory and improve to 23-2 on the season.

Amsterdam will now face Section 5 champion Penfield in the state championship game on Saturday at 6 p.m., with the opportunity to capture the program’s first state title in more than 30 years.
