MJROTC Spartan Race

Amsterdam High School MCJROTC cadets competed in the Spartan Stadion Race at Citi Field on March 14 with support from the PFC Joseph Dwyer Fund provided by Montgomery County.

The Stadion Race is a 5K obstacle course conducted inside a professional sports stadium. Cadets navigated stadium concourses and bleachers while completing functional fitness challenges that included box jumps, slam balls, sandbag and Atlas stone carries, rope and wall climbs, monkey bars, spear throws and multi-rig obstacles. Participants who did not complete an obstacle were required to perform burpees as a penalty.

Cadets and staff who represented the MCJROTC program included GySgt Dana Allison, Ryan Adams, Jadiel Albino, Antonio Billington, John Malec, Kimberly Maldonado, Miguel Medina, Jayden Murphy, Zaidalis Sanabria, Jack Traverso Santana, Edelyn Soto, Alexis Torres and Juliana Valls.

Several team members earned top placements in their age groups. Allison placed third out of 134 competitors with a time of 1:01:00. Torres placed fifth out of 234 competitors in the 18–24 age group with a time of 50:12. Valls placed second out of 10 competitors in the 15–16 age group with a time of 1:19:00. Maldonado placed fourth out of 92 competitors in the 18–24 age group with a time of 1:01:00.

The race marks the beginning of the MCJROTC program’s competitive training schedule as cadets prepare for longer Spartan races, including 10K and 21K events scheduled in Bethel and Killington later this season. Participation in events such as the Stadion Race supports the program’s focus on leadership development, resilience and physical fitness.
