Autism Awareness

Students and staff at Barkley Elementary School marked Autism Awareness on April 2 with a series of activities focused on understanding, inclusion and acceptance.

As part of the celebration, students participated in a schoolwide creative project, designing individual flower petals that were combined into a larger display. The project served as a visual representation of the school community, highlighting that individuals grow and develop at their own pace.

Students and staff also wore blue throughout the day to show support for autism awareness and to promote a message of unity across the building.

The event was organized by the school’s occupational therapy (OT), physical therapy (PT) and speech team, who facilitated activities and discussions to help students better understand and appreciate neurodiversity.

District officials said the event reflected Barkley Elementary’s continued commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all students.
