The Greater Amsterdam School District has announced several leadership changes at Amsterdam High School and Lynch Middle School, welcoming four administrators into new roles for the 2026-27 school year.
At Amsterdam High School, Grace McDermott will serve as assistant principal, Glenn Westfall Jr. will serve as deputy principal and Matt DeLorenzo will serve as interim assistant principal.
McDermott joins GASD from the Bethlehem Central School District, where she served as a school counselor at Slingerlands Elementary School. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from SUNY Oneonta, a master’s degree in school counseling from The College of Saint Rose and School Building Leader and School District Leader certifications from SUNY New Paltz.
Westfall brings 12 years of experience in education. He began his career as a physical education teacher in the Troy City School District before moving into administrative roles with the City School District of Albany. Most recently, he served as assistant director of health, physical education and athletics in Albany.
“My years in Albany have been incredibly meaningful, both professionally and personally,” Westfall said. “Those experiences have reinforced my belief in the power of building strong relationships and creating opportunities for every student to succeed. I am excited to begin this next chapter as deputy principal in the Greater Amsterdam School District.”
DeLorenzo joins Amsterdam following a career in the Schenectady City School District, where he spent seven years as a middle school social studies teacher and 24 years as an administrator at the elementary, middle and high school levels. He retired from the district in June 2026 and earned his degrees from the University at Albany.
At Lynch Middle School, Cameron Schiavone will serve as assistant principal. Schiavone began his career in the Syracuse City School District before becoming a high school science teacher in the Schenectady City School District, where he taught chemistry and environmental science. He holds a bachelor’s degree from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, a master’s degree from New York University, and a Certificate of Advanced Study in educational leadership from Russell Sage College.
“I am very excited to be a part of the Greater Amsterdam School District and look forward to the opportunity to work with staff, students and families of the community,” Schiavone said.
The district welcomes McDermott, Westfall, DeLorenzo and Schiavone to their new roles and looks forward to their contributions to the Amsterdam High School and Lynch Middle School communities.
