Eighty-five Amsterdam High School ninth-grade students attended Career Con at Fulton-Montgomery Community College last week.
The event, hosted by HFM BOCES Career and Technical Education, brings eighth- and ninth-grade students from regional school districts together with local employers and professionals.
Students had the opportunity to speak directly with representatives from a range of career fields, ask questions and learn about different pathways available after high school.
“Career Con gives our students an opportunity to begin thinking about their future and to connect what they are learning in school with the careers and opportunities available in our community,” AHS Principal Molly Schaefer said. “Experiences like this help students explore their interests and begin making informed decisions about the paths they may want to pursue.”
The field trip also gave students an opportunity to learn about career and technical education programs and the skills connected to different professions.
Career Con is designed to introduce students to career options while helping them make connections with employers and professionals from across the region.
