Edward Oare

Greater Amsterdam School District student Edward Oare will bring a student perspective to the HFM BOCES Board of Education following his appointment as an ex officio student member.

Oare, a junior at HFM PTECH enrolled in the Fisheries and Wildlife Technologies pathway, was introduced during the board’s Sept. 30 meeting. He is one of two students appointed to serve in an advisory role, attending public meetings and sharing student perspectives on issues discussed by the board.

“It means a lot to me to be nominated and chosen for this opportunity,” Oare said. “I think my leadership skills and honesty will help me be successful in this role.”

Oare’s involvement extends beyond the classroom. At PTECH, he serves as treasurer of the school’s drama club. He also participates in the Amsterdam Police Explorers, a youth law enforcement program focused on training, mentorship, community service and career exploration in policing.

He hopes to become an environmental conservation officer.

Oare joins Christian Majewski of the Fonda-Fultonville Central School District as a student representative on the board. Student members provide input in an advisory capacity and do not vote or attend executive sessions.

The Greater Amsterdam School District congratulates Oare on his appointment and looks forward to seeing him contribute his perspective and leadership in this new role.
