Amsterdam High School students celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month on Friday, Oct. 30, with a day of music and dance featuring salsa lessons and a live performance by Alex Torres & His Latin Orchestra.
The celebration began with salsa lessons led by instructor Felix Ortiz, giving participating students an opportunity to learn dance moves and experience an important part of Latin American culture.
Later in the morning, students were treated to a live performance by Alex Torres & His Latin Orchestra, a 12-piece ensemble based in Amsterdam. The orchestra performed a variety of musical styles, including salsa, merengue, cha-cha, bomba, plena and Latin jazz.
The event provided students with an opportunity to experience Hispanic culture through music and dance while celebrating the traditions and artistic contributions of Hispanic communities.
